Sergio Chaparro, violin


He was born in Bogota, Colombia. In 2012, he took his first violin lessons, and then in 2013, bhe began his studies at the Universidad del Valle under the mentoring of the master, Diana Rodriguez. He received his bachelor’s degree in music with an emphasis on interpretation from the institution mentioned before. During his studies, he has received violin lessons from different teachers such as Diego Villacís (Colombia), Tatiana Tchijova (Russia), Dmitri Pethoukov (Russia), Marcelo Valencia (Colombia), and Mike Jiménez (Colombia).


Currently, he is under the mentorship of the teacher, Luisa Barroso (Venezuela).
He has been a member of the Symphony Orchestra of the Universidad del Valle and the
Mozart Project, among others. In 2021, he won the audition to play as a substitute with the Cali Philharmonic Orchestra, which he had performed with several times.
He currently belongs to the string quartet called Rayo and served as a violinist at the Antifona Orchestra in Cali, Colombia.
In February of 2019, he participated in the Music Festival of Santa Catarina (Brazil), taking classes with Ole Bohn (Australia) and Richard Roberts (USA). In 2020, he was selected to participate as an active student at the XV String Festival Arcos 2020, receiving masterclasses from Tao-chang Yu (China).


In July 2022, he participated in the Music Festival of Campos de Jordao (Brazil), taking
classes with Claudio Micheletti, Maria Fernanda Krug, and Carmelo de los Santos, among
others. In September 2022, he participated in the Music Festival of Esmeraldas (Ecuador), taking classes with Nancy Zhou (USA-China) and Markus Placci (Italy).
Also, he has received masterclasses from teachers such as Aisha Syed (Dominican Republic), Adrián Chamorro (Colombia), Martina Trumpp (Germany), and Guido Calvo (Costa Rica), among others.

At present, he is pursuing a graduate program with Dr. Igor Kalnin at Illinois State
University.
